With a background in fine art and over 30 years' of experience in restoration, I am skilled at working with a wide array of materials including wood, wood veneer, base and precious metals, papers, plastics, resins, paints, and plasters. Below is a brief description of the many processes I can offer, but I am always learning new ones and enjoy a challenge.
Please take a look at past projects to get a sense of the many objects and materials I work with!
Structural repair
I can restore wobbly furniture and pieces that have come unglued or broken; I can also fabricate missing parts to complete
Hardware repair
I can repair or fabricate specialized hardware for both antique and high-end modern pieces, including pulls, hinges, knobs, and feet.
Duplication
Many items of furniture in need of repair are missing pieces of trim or decorative elements. I can duplicate existing patterns by casting and molding, carving, and other specialized processes.
Finishing
My speciality is hand-applied finishes such as French Polish and most modern sprayed finishes.
Technical consulting
Restoration is a complex process, and each piece requires a customized approach. Before completing any restoration work, I examine the piece completely and design a process that is tailored to the item's particular needs. As part of the technical consultation I create a process description that specifies all of the technical steps and materials involved.
New construction
Your imagination is the limit: I can fabricate everything from home and office furniture to art displays. Challenge me!
